Expert patients programme

The Expert Patients Programme is a free self management course for people with a long term condition. It aims to give people knowledge and skills to help them manage their condition and improve their quality of life.

Topics covered include problem solving, goal setting, managing pain & fatigue, communication, working with healthcare professionals, and planning for the future.

Courses typically run over six consecutive weeks, with each weekly session lasting two and a half hours. All courses are led by lay tutors who themselves have a long term condition.

We provide a range of courses in Brighton & Hove at various community venues including:

  • Living Well - a course for people with any long term condition
  • New Beginnings - a seven week course for people with a mental health condition
  • Persistent Pain Programme - for people who live with day to day persistent pain
  • Looking After Me - a course for carers with long term conditions which aims to increase the carer’s confidence in dealing with his or her own health
  • Wise Up - workshops for health & social care professionals to enable them to promote self management to their patients.
