What you need to know about healthcare in the city

We want to keep you up to date with health issues in Brighton and Hove so you can make informed decisions about what's best for you and your family.

Protect yourself – have your seasonal flu jab

Flu is a highly contagious viral infection.  Anyone can get flu, but some groups of people are more vulnerable than others to serious health complications from the illness.

Are you at higher risk? Health experts say you should protect yourself by having the seasonal flu vaccination if:

  • You are aged 65 or over
  • You are pregnant – see here for more details
  • You are living in a residential or nursing home
  • You are the main carer for an older or disabled person
  • You have certain medical conditions, including diabetes or a heart problem

Contact your GP surgery and ask to have your free, flu vaccination as soon as possible.  This year’s seasonal flu jab protects against three types of flu, including the type known as swine flu.

You can find out more about who should have the flu jab and why.
