There will be a range of events for cyclists in Bike Week from 12 - 20 June.
There will be a free Bike Breakfast from 8.00 to 9.30 am on Wednesday 16 June for employees of Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals who cycle to Sussex House, near the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Event arranged by Shaun Innes, Transport/Car Parking Co-ordinator.
On Thursday 17 June, rides leave simultaneously from Lewes (start of cycle lane opposite Montacute Road) and Brighton (The Level) at 8.00am to meet at The Meeting House on the University of Sussex campus for a Bike Breakfast provided by Linda Newman, The University's Transport Manager.
South Downs Health NHS Trust based at Brighton General Hospital will give complimentary sets of tyre levers and bike maps to cycling employees. Arranged by Becky Reynolds of the South Downs Health Bicycle Users' Group with support from the Trust.
The University of Brighton is offering free breakfast vouchers to students and staff who cycle arranged by Rebecca Duffy of the University's Bicycle Users' Group.
Free Dr Bike sessions have been provided by Ian Davey of Cycle Training SE to check out the bikes in the run up to Bike Week.
Brighton and Hove City Council have been supportive and will soon bring out a new cycle map of the City.
Becky Reynolds, City Cycling lead said 'Cycling is a fun, healthy and enjoyable alternative to car use. Responsible employers are adopting healthy travel plans, and cycling will make a key contribution. It's a great way to get around town. The City Cycling initiative will run new projects in Brighton and Hove after Bike Week is over."
Additional support for the City Cycling initiative comes from Brighton and Hove City Teaching Primary Care Trust, Brighton and Hove Economic Partnership, Brighton and Hove Buses, CTC - the UK's national cyclists' organisation, Sustrans and Bricycles. City Cycling is a sub group of the Brighton and Hove Active Living Task Force.
